So I looked at how much I spend for lunch, and I figured, even with shipping, buying MRE's off of EBay is cheaper than what I spend for that..
So I bought some from a guy who as selling the Military versions, not that they are supposed to be sold like that, but hey, I don't mind..
The First Review will be the beef enchilada (sp)
It came with:
Condiments packet (with mini tobacco)
Grape Beverage powder
Jalapeno Cheese Sauce
The beef Enchilada
In condiments were the normal MRE crap, matches, gum, coffee, an extraordinarily large sized packet of salt, TP, etc etc, and the mini bottle of hot sauce.. I wondered where the pepper was for a moment and then I smacked myself on the forehead..
Vege crackers were like cardboard but with less taste.. My mom's dog seemed to love em though..
Cookies were pretty edible, not that bad.. weird after taste though
I didn't drink the Grape stuff yet.. I'll save that for later
Now to the fun part... being as this was military MRE, it came with a FRH (Flameless Ration Heater) It is by far a damn nifty way to heat your food.. something about adding a tiny bit of water and watching white hydrogen smoke leak out is more amusing than it should be... it's like a hand warmer from hell
Heated the rice, enchilada and cheese...
The rice needed to have been hotter, as it had the hard rice texture still, but it was ok, better with some cheese sauce added. The cheese sauce however was damn good. sorta a Velveeta taste, but not spicy at al. The beef enchilada was also really good. No chunks, just ground beef. Added cheese sauce as well to it, making it better. I love cheese ^^
Over all, one of the better MRE's I've had.. The civilian MREs you can buy at Sunny's and Ranger's have nothing on these.. and frankly, I'm never getting those again. I'll have to get Jenn's opinion on the beef and mushroom one she had for her lunch today..
And yes, while some people hate MREs, I think they are damn cool... and a hell of a lot better than dehydrated camping food
